Our Story

Origins in the Patagonia of Chile

Four years ago, in the heart of the wild and majestic Patagonian region of Chile, the idea to create Noktua was born. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and unpredictable weather, this region poses unique challenges for adventurers and campers. From hurricane-force winds to torrential rains and sudden snowfalls, camping in Patagonia is no easy task.

Two friends, Nicolás and Alejandro, passionate about nature and extreme adventures, constantly faced these harsh conditions during their expeditions. Frustrated by the lack of camping gear that could withstand the Patagonian climate, they decided to take matters into their own hands. Thus, Noktua’s mission was born: to design and manufacture rooftop tents capable of enduring the rigors of Patagonian elements.

Innovation and Quality

In the early years, Nicolás and Alejandro worked tirelessly in their workshop in Puerto Natales, collaborating with local engineers and testing their prototypes in the most extreme conditions. Thanks to their dedication and the use of high-quality materials, they managed to develop rooftop tents that not only offered protection and comfort but also durability and ease of use.

The market response was incredible. Campers and adventurers throughout the region began to recognize the superiority of Noktua tents, and the small company started to grow rapidly.

Expansion to New Zealand

After four years of success in South America, Nicolás decided to embark on a new adventure. Inspired by the fact that New Zealand and Chile share similar climatic challenges—strong winds, constant rains, and rugged terrains—Nicolás was convinced that the rooftop tents that had been so successful in Patagonia would be equally appreciated in New Zealand.

Moreover, the growing community of adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts in New Zealand was in search of innovative camping solutions. With his experience and knowledge, Nicolás saw a market ready for Noktua’s robust and reliable products.

A New Chapter

Nicolás moved to Christchurch, New Zealand, establishing a new base of operations. Leveraging his knowledge of extreme conditions and camping challenges, he began to adapt and promote Noktua rooftop tents for the New Zealand market
